We will be an aggressive secondary intent on making plays. To that end we will line up in a press technique on the opposing receiver. We will either press them in man or use a bail technique in zone.
Basic Soft Press Technique Stance >Line up square, head up (we may shade in or out depending on situation) as tight as we can get >Athletic position, weight on the inside of feet >Hands up for jabbing >Eyes on the numbers Basic Soft Press Technique (Man coverage) >Keep feet active, slow feet get us beat! >Slowly give ground to receiver as he starts his route >Stay square to receiver, jabbing his shoulders-dont lunge! >If he breaks your cylinder jab his shoulder with trailing hand >When he gets into his route keep trailing hand in contact with his hip and look back for the ball >Be physical!!! Here are some YouTube videos demonstrating proper press technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlwwgzZXluU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2ZdNOTlXxA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af_IABSq3N8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrvPxxuBI0k Bail Technique (Zone coverage) >Presnap look is the same as our Press look >On the snap of the ball we quickly shuffle or pedal back into our zone responsibility Run Fits We want to be active participants in our run defense. We need to make plays! >CB-run to-Aggressively attack downhill toward the runners outside shoulder. Force contain defender >Safety-run to-Aggressively attack downhill in the alley. Alley defender. >Safety-run away-Keep your depth, rotate to the far hash and replace play side corner who is flying up on the run. You now have his pass responsibility. 1. Sit Drill (5 reps) >Start with three cones 12 yards apart (middle cone is 6 yards from each) >Receiver sits down after 3 hard steps (at middle cone) >Defender charges and also settles at middle cone >Receiver chatters feet in a good athletic position (knees bent, hands up six inches apart, thumbs toward each other) 2. Sit/Mirror (5 reps) >Meet as above >Defender follows coaches wave for direction >Receiver chatters feet and moves with defender maintaining good position >3 or 4 direction changes and finish 3. Drive Block (5 reps) >Start locked on defender, high hand on shoulder (helmet side), low hand on hip >Defender laterally follows coach's wave >Receiver works defender toward end zone cones, not sideline 4. Sit/Mirror/Rabbit (5 reps) >Start with 3 cones in a triangle shape about 10-12 yards apart >At coaches wave, defender runs toward a cone >Receiver intercepts defender, sits and mirrors >Receiver mirrors defenders lateral movement 2-3 times and then drives defender back 10 yards >Receiver intercepts defender, employs sit, mirror and drive block techniques Here is a YouTube video showing the techniques http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL1vpPkA2x4&list=UUOpeJ_zmuHDZ-b7oXbhf04Q&feature=c4-overview So, you wanna be a receiver???
Here at Prescott High School everything is earned. It is special to be a Badger. It is a privilege to wear the uniform and to represent our community on Friday nights. Young men from Prescott have been taking the field to compete in football for over 100 years. We have a long, proud legacy to live up to. We will do that. We will not shrink from that legacy. We will work, sweat and bleed until we make ourselves into something that is worthy to wear the ‘P’ on our helmets. What are our expectations for you as a receiver? If you work your tail off to meet the following criteria, you will greatly increase your chances of seeing the field on Friday nights. (In order of importance) 1. Be at every practice. I cannot coach you, motivate you or help you improve if you are not there. We will prepare for competition with the athletes that we can depend on. 2. Have a great attitude. Come to practice ready to work, to learn, to improve and to be a great teammate. 3. Block. Depending on formations, we will have anywhere from 1-4 receivers on the field for any given play. My receivers will aggressively attack defenders and fight hard to prevent them from making the tackle. This is our TOP PRIORITY. You will be evaluated first on your blocking. If you do not attack every play, it will be very hard to get you onto the field. 4. Run correct pass routes at full speed. We have a read passing game. You must run the correct route as hard as you can on every pass play, regardless of if you think the ball is coming your way or not. This gives our QB a chance to go through his progressions and know where you are going to be. You will be evaluated on how hard you run your routes. If you do not run the correct route at full speed, it will be very hard to get you onto the field. 5. Catch the ball and score touchdowns. Of course it is important to catch the football and to score touchdowns. But do you notice where this is on the priority list? That’s right, last. If you meet expectations 1-4 you will have a chance to catch the ball and score touchdowns. If you don’t, you will have great seat to watch someone else do it. DON’T ASK FOR IT, TAKE IT…DON’T EXPECT IT, EARN IT Press Beaters
